There was a time when we viewed the Filtertron as inferior because the coils are way too small and too close together which strangles dynamic range, feel and expression.  However we have found solutions in our huge bag of Electrical Engineering tricks and the Tron has now taken it’s place sitting alongside the other wonderfully expressive pickups in the Kinman collection.  Our lively Nu-Tron range sounds unlike any other Filtertron so don’t be misled by it’s small size because our unique and Patented technology has overcome the shortcomings of this compacted design and turned it into a highly dynamic and very loud voiced, astounding little package of dynamite that punches well above it's size.  By all accounts Filtertrons produce a twangy sound but no Filtertron twangs like ours which produce sharp twang all the way down to the lowest note.  You won't believe your ears.

Converge-a-Tron: The above with coil splitting to very good single coil sound (non-noiseless).  Similar sound and the same options as the Converge-2 Multi-Sound humbucker.

P90-Tron – Zero-Hum

• Heavy:  Clear and well defined dirty growl for the bridge position.  We know that sounds somewhat contradictory but when you hear one of the Heavy’s you’ll know exactly what we mean.  Rock, Reggae, Pop, Jazz, Country, Indie,
• Lite:  Bright, sweet and beautiful tone and it’s very dynamic with a very bouncy low wound string sound.  Well behaved in the neck position and absolutely no slop or messy bass side sounds.  Rock, Reggae, Pop, Jazz, Country, Indie, Instrumental.

Twanga-Tron – Zero-Hum

• Heavy:  Clear and sharp, beyond Fender-like twang for the bridge position.  Very dynamic.  Country, Surf, Instrumental, Virtuoso.
• Lite:  Bright, sweet with sharp twang.  Well behaved in the neck position.  Country, Surf, Instrumental, Virtuoso.
   

Technical & Application info:

Our pickups are over engineered and designed carefully so that wax potting has no detrimental effect on sound.  All Kinman's are wax potted and you have the freedom to utterly saturate their sound in distortion without a hint of microphonic feedback. 

• 50mm bridge pickup for all bridges with saddle spreads 52mm ~ 54mm
• 47.5mm neck pickup with all other bridges
• 50mm neck pickup with vintage Stratocaster bridge
• Not suitable for bridge position with a vintage Stratocaster bridge

Mounting hardware (included)

• Two inboard mounting wood screws through the cover.  Phillips countersunk head.  Can be driven into cavity floor or other wooden structures.
• Two and three outboard 3-48 UNC screws for suspended mounting like a regular humbucker
• Silicon rubber tube springs

Hook-up wires

• Robust single wires for soldering, requires effective shielding in wiring tunnels to prevent electrical buzz (not recommended for hollow guitars)
• 2 or 3 conductor shielded cable to facilitate phase reversing  Wiring tunnel shielding not required (recommended for hollow guitars)
• All the above with or without Kinman Harness Plug.

• Plug for Kinman Goodbye Soldering harness KHP-90 (for 2 humbucker / P-90pickups)

Cover options

• Polished Nickel-Silver.  Best sonic performance and immunity to feedback screech.  Suitable for relicing and deliberate aging
• Will lose it's mirror-like polish naturally in a few months unless you maintain it with occasional application of clear liquid guitar polish
• Gold plated with real Gold which has magnetic Nickel plating under the gold so expect a slight loss of performance and susceptibility to feedback screech under extremely high gain
• With and without Kinman logo

Pot & Capacitor values

• Best with 500k Ohm volume pot. 
• Tone pot is usually the same value as the volume but for a little more top end brightness can be 1meg or No-Load.
• Stock pots can actually measure as low as 262k.  Pots in our Goodbye-Soldering Harness are guaranteed to measure no less that 450k.
• Normal tone cap value of 0.022uF, 63 ~ 100 volt Polyester.  Smaller uF value lessen the severity of Treble cut, higher values increase it.
• The voltage rating of Caps is not important but 63 ~ 100 volt have thicker lead wires that are easy to work with.

Output Polarity: 

• in-phase with all other Kinman pickups
• in-phase with Gibson and Copy humbuckers
• opposite phase to Fender Strat

We highly recommend consulting the Install Guide in the Technical section even if you think you know it all.  Kinmans' require specialized knowledge and sometimes there is updated info.  There is also a handy wiring diagram available.
